Introduction to the characteristics of geomembrane

Jul 12, 2021

The advantages of geomembrane are small specific gravity, strong overall continuity, high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, anti-microbial erosion and stronger than natural materials. In addition to the above characteristics, the geomembrane also has the characteristics of small equivalent pore diameter, good permeability, soft surface and a certain degree of roughness. It mainly uses its six functions including:

1. The filter layer function, also called "reverse filter function", can not only permeate water and breathe, but also prevent the movement of soil particles, which can ensure the stability of the soil.

2. Drainage function can replace sand cushion as drainage channel in geotechnical engineering;

3. The isolation function can be used as an isolation layer between two layers of different materials, so that the stress transmission and diffusion or the material will not be hollowed out and mixed due to erosion due to water flow.

4. The anti-seepage geomembrane or composite geomembrane can prevent the leakage of road surface water or groundwater from affecting the stability of the structure;

5. Reinforcement can improve the overall stress state of the soil or road surface, enhance the bearing capacity of the foundation, and improve the stability of the roadbed.

6. The protective effect can spread the stress and prevent the soil from being damaged by external force or water erosion.
